Alex Chiu’s Eternal Rings and Gorgeouspil Scam
Posted by: | Comments
I don’t know if you’ve heard of Alex Chiu’s Eternal Rings and Gorgeouspil but if you haven’t, it’s worth checking this out! The crazy guy claims he created an immortal device taking the form of rings you wear at night. Here’s from the Alex Chiu’s website:
According to Alex Chiu, based on testimonies, facts, and proofs, people are believed to be able to stay physically young forever by using his new inventions “The Eternal Life Rings” and “The Eternal Life Foot Braces”. The Eternal Life Rings are to be worn on both small fingers of a user during sleep. The Eternal Life Foot Braces are to be worn on all toes of both feet during sleep. Both devices consist of rare earth or ceramic magnets and plastic braces which hold magnets onto the fingers of the user. The inventor explained that the fingers and toes are the negative (-) and positive (+) terminals of your body.
Alex Chiu compares your body to a transistor so he can explain why the eternal rings works and it is where it fails monumentally:
So a transistor is just like an amplifier. You use a little bit of energy to turn on a larger amount of energy!!
Now back to your fingers. Your fingers are the transistors of your body. Each finger affects a certain part of your body. If you allow energy to flow from one finger to the other finger, the energy which traveled between the 2 fingers turned on a larger amount of energy. The larger amount of energy is so powerful, it affects each cell of your body. (Only works well on the small fingers. I got close to no result from the other fingers.) The powerful energy which flows through your entire body as it cures damaged cells, is not directly emitted from the 2 tiny magnetic rings. The powerful energy you have experienced is the energy amplified by the tiny energy which came from the rings. This powerful energy helps your body reheal. Which means, your wounds, scars, and among other damaged cells will reheal.
Oh, look we’ve just changed physics, thanks to Alex Chiu for his great discovery of creating energy. A transistor is truly an amplifier; it can be used as a current, voltage or power amplifier, but there’s no such thing as an energy amplifier! You can’t amplify energy, that’s as simple as that. You have to deal with the amount you have. This whole thing is just ridiculous and he’s actually selling those Eternal Rings, that’s the worst thing! Can you expect to gain eternal life by wearing two Alex Chiu’s Eternal Rings that “amplify energy” and cure your body that way? No. I’m pretty sure some mad scientist would have figured it out and proved it. We’re in 2008, something as simple as wearing a ring to gain eternal life would have been discovered. I mean, we send people in space…Don’t we?
Now the best of the best, Alex Chiu’s Gorgeouspil! Again, here’s a quote from Alex Chiu’s website:
This pill was named ‘Gorgeous Pill’ because it turns a user prettier every time the pill was taken. The user will gradually look PERFECT, even more gorgeous than super models. You will one day reach PHYSICAL PERFECTION!!
Now it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out Alex Chiu’s is once again lying. You just have to look at Alex Chiu’s picture to understand it just doesn’t work. And now the juiciest quote of all:
A person who takes Gorgeouspil likes to concentrate his soul within his own body and does not wish to scatter his soul on to other bodies. So making babies is not desirable for people who take Gorgeouspil. Gorgeouspil allows a person to achieve unlimited beauty and unlimited youth. Meanwhile, it stops humans from unnecessary reproductions of more human beings.
Oh now that helps a lot Alex; create a crazy generation of 6 billion people looking 25. I just can’t believe some people are actually buying these things thinking it will work. You just have a look at Alex Chiu’s website and you know it’s a scam. There’s nothing professional and nothing scientific in this whole thing. I’m sorry Alex Chiu’s, but your stuff is BS. No, in fact I’m not sorry.
Global warming? God wouldn’t allow it.
Posted by: | Comments
I was browsing some forum in search for some juicy information and I found a really good one! It seems there’s a bunch of Conservative Christians actually not believing in global warming because God wouldn’t allow it! Here’s some quotes before going any further:
Global warming? God wouldn’t allow it, or if he did, it would be because of divine intervention, not anything MAN could do.
As a Conservative Christian, I know more than anyone how the left is trying to undo all of the God given rights of our faithful upper-class. It is my understanding that we cannot be the cause of global warming, because God wouldn’t allow his most beloved Nation to do such a thing. Its just another attempt to get people into backing such anti-Christian causes as public education, medicare, medicade and tax cuts for the poor.
You know when you read something and it hurts? I mean it really hurts and you just feel so out of control because it’s plain ridiculous. I totally understand not everyone can agree with global warming as even if there’s a lot of scientific data backing it up, it’s still unsure about whether we’re responsible or not. I personally think we are responsible for global warming as we’re just freaking careless about our planet and there’s a lot of scientific data pointing towards that possibility.
Anyway, the “God wouldn’t allow it” is just plain ridiculous! I’m sorry but God has nothing to do with Global warming. We’re messing up our planet, we’re dealing with it. It’s not a matter of believing in God or not, I really don’t care…It’s a matter of common sense! Hiroshima…Why did God let that happen? WWI and II, why did God let that happen? The fact that we’re destroying our forests, why is God letting that happen? The real truth is that we’re complete idiots and that our world is driven by money which eventually leads to man-made disasters. Plain and simple. There’s no divine intervention in that. You mess up, you pay. End of the story.
I thinks it goes further than the religion stuff. It’s dangerous, really. These people are totally blind about what’s happening around them and there’s no facts that could convince them about anything. I honestly think religion is a wonderful thing as it helps people to go forward and give them something to believe in. But there’s a point where it’s dangerous and I think these people have crossed the line. So you make your own opinion but my quote of the day is: “You mess up, you pay”.
Scientists develop computer that can translate a dog’s bark
Posted by: | CommentsSometimes I think we don’t use people’s brains properly and this is a pretty good example.
Scientists have developed a computer/computer software that can actually recognize wether a dog was in a stranger, fight, walk, alone, ball or play scenario. They analysed more than 6,000 barks from 14 Hungarian sheepdogs in these 6 different situations to find out that the computer was detecting the correct situation 43% of the time, which looks pretty bad to me. Following statistics, a random process would find the correct situation 17% of the time so it’s not a major breakthrough. They found that the most accurate detection was for “stranger” and “fight”.
Now that’s not really surprising and honestly it’s not hard to tell: it doesn’t take a bloody computer to know when your dog wants to fight or is barking at a stranger. Don’t we have better things to search for? I mean people die of cancer and HIV everyday and we need more research in a lot of other more important fields! We have to stop spending our money and our people’s brains on ridiculous things that don’t lead to useful stuff.
Everybody can solve a Rubik’s Cube
Posted by: | Comments
How to solve a Rubik’s Cube? There’s a popular belief that solving the Rubik’s Cube is really hard. People being able to solve it maybe are keeping a tight secret around it because they look good when solving it in front of people but the truth is that once you’ve learned how to do it, it’s plain logic and it can be done quite fast. I’m writing this how to solve the Rubik’s Cube post because I know that there’s so many persons that once got frustrated by the cube! Daily Common Sense is not just about human stupidity and common sense, it’s also about sharing knowledge and that’s why I feel the need to share how to solve the Rubik’s Cube. I won’t do a complete analysis of the Rubik’s Cube and I won’t show a list of 100 movements you don’t even understand like many “How to solve a Rubik’s Cube” articles on the internet. You can’t show how to solve the Rubik’s Cube on paper, it’s too boring and complicated. For that reason, we need a video! Here’s a tutorial from Dan Brown on You Tube and it’s by far the best tutorial available on the Internet. It’s extremely well explained and you can have a fully solved cube within a couple of minutes! After that you’ll be able to say: “I can solve a Rubik’s Cube!” and impress your friends and family. But don’t forget to share the knowledge, it’s key to Daily Common Sense! Oh and by the way, once you rock at solving the Rubik’s Cube, use my online Rubik’s Cube timer to time yourself!

Apple’s Steve Wozniak “Work alone” inspiration
Posted by: | Comments
I recently read the book iWoz from Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple inc. For people not even knowing there was a co-found at Apple (That’s right there’s not only Steve Jobs), well he’s the one who built the first personal computer. He’s not at Apple anymore and he quit a long time ago but his book explains how he managed to build the first personal computer and also is an autobiography.
I must say it was a really good reading and being a young engineer, this really inspired me a lot! I mean the guy built the first computer alone, he knows what engineering is and he’s a really credible figure. I want to point at a really precise part of the book that totally changed my way of thinking and made me realize he was actually right:
If you’re that rare engineer who’s an inventor and also an artist, I’m going to give you some advice that might be hard to take. That advice is: Work alone.
When you’re working for a large, structured company, there’s much less leeway to turn clever ideas into revolutionary new products or product features by yourself (…) You’re going to be best able to design revolutionary products and features if you’re working on your own. Not on a committee. Not on a team. That means you’re probably going to have to do what I did. Do your projects as moonlighting, with limited money and limited resources. But man, it’ll be worth it in the end. (…) When you’re working as your own boss, making decisions about what you’re going to build and how you’re going to go about it, making trade-offs as to features and qualities, it become a part of you.(…) It’s so easy to doubt yourself, and it’s especially easy to doubt yourself when what you’re working on is at odds with everyone else in the world who thinks they know the right way to do things. Sometimes you can’t prove whether you’re right or wrong. Only time can tell that.
That is just so inspiring. It’s also really true, there’s too many people in this world to tell you what you’re doing will not work and that you’re not doing it the right way. Always remember that in history, the good creative ideas were usually criticized a lot. That’s only because not everyone have a vision and is able to see a potential future where you might see one. They’ll turn you down but if you truly believe in your project, don’t let others ruin your passion, work alone! As Wozniak says, there will be a lot of sleepless nights, but in the end it’ll be worth it and you’ll be there to show what you believed in was right and that you’re taking credit for it. Taking risks is moving forward. If you don’t want to take these risks and are happy with your job/career or what your doing, please don’t be one of those telling others they’re wrong because they might just see something you don’t.
I hope that it’s inspiring you as much as it inspired me when I read it.
Top 10 Yahoo! searches for 2007…Why am I surprised?
Posted by: | CommentsOk, this came out not too long ago and I’m really asking myself a lot of questions about people’s interests…Here’s the list of the 2007 top 10 Yahoo! searches:
1. Britney Spears
2. WWE
3. Paris Hilton
4. Naruto
5. Beyonce
6. Lindsay Lohan
7. RuneScape
8. Fantasy Football
9. Fergie
10. Jessica Alba
So we can all figure out the top searches are celebrities and wrestling. God, there’s so many things on the internet, people don’t have anything more important to search? And WWE being second really surprised me I must say. Much more than all these celebrities! Yahoo is not Google, but still…Being second on Yahoo! is a lot of traffic and a lot of searches. There’s US elections coming soon, a lot of major countries are at war in Irak, there’s just so much thing going on at this time that I can hardly believe these are the top searches but they are.
In fact, now I understand why people are not that much informed of what is going on in this world, they don’t give a damn, Britney Spears is their daily news.
Ok, so you can draw your own conclusions from that list, but mine is that people don’t have a very large frame of interest. But I think we can draw a better conclusion that that, here’s the fastest growing keywords on Google for 2007:
1. iphone
2. webkinz
3. tmz
4. transformers
5. youtube
6. club penguin
7. myspace
8. heroes
9. facebook
10. anna nicole smith
It does make a little bit more sense. There’s still celebrity stuff but there’s a larger frame of interests in that list. Can we say that Google users are on top of the average Yahoo! user? I don’t think so. I just think that the celebrity thing is something Yahoo! is promoting a lot because it brings a lot of traffic and revenue. If you actually go on Yahoo!, you’ll probably see news about a celebrity right on the first page which boost the searches about that subject. On Google, you get a blank search page, so nothing to influence your first search intention. I think in the end they are the same users but Yahoo is promoting a lot for entertainment stuff. It’s some sort of catch-22!
Online timer - Google gadget
Posted by: | CommentsThis doesn’t really have a lot to do with Daily Common Sense stuff but I thought I’d share it.
As some of you might know, I’ve developed a Rubik’s Cube timer, which can also be used as a whatever you want timer because it’s just a lot more complete than any regular timer.
I built a Google gadget for it and I think it might be really useful. We all need a timer one day and it would be at hand in your Google personalized page. So Here’s the gadget, add it to your Google page! Just click the “+ Google” image at the bottom of the gadget.
Try it here if you want to see what it looks like:
Nostradamus is not a valid argument!
Posted by: | CommentsPlease stop using Nostradamus prophecies as an argument to prove your point. You probably said or heard someone say : “Nostradamus predicted it” or “Yes but according to Nostradamus…”. So now let’s put everything clear:
Nostradamus’ prophecies aren’t true
In fact, I think Nostradamus was a genius of his own. The man successfully wrote about 1000 quatrains almost 500 years ago and we’re still making a big deal out of it; most people actually see him as a valid argument in most conversations. He was able to write his quatrains vague enough but at the same time persuasive enough so that people could associate them to any events 500 years later. The truth is that most of the Nostradamus quotes you’ll read on the internet aren’t actually the real quotes. People have modified them over the years so they can fit certain events. Also, the prophecies were written in French, so there’s a lot of interpretation done when translating to English. One of the most popular Nostradamus quatrain you’ll find on the internet today is the 9/11 prediction and here’s what you’ll mostly find:
“In the year of the new century and nine months,
From the sky will come a great King of Terror…
The sky will burn at forty-five degrees.
Fire approaches the great new city…” ”
In the city of york there will be a great collapse,
2 twin brothers torn apart by chaos while the fortress falls the great leader will succumbInterpretation: 2001 is the first year of the new century and this is the 9th month. New York is located at the 41st degree Latitude.
Scary isn’t it? This has been modified a lot to fit the event…Here’s the real thing:
The year 1999, seventh month,
From the sky will come a great King of Terror:
To bring back to life the great King of the Mongols,
Before and after Mars to reign by good luck.
A lot less scary I guess as it’s mentioning 1999 and seventh month! There’s also the fact that it doesn’t mean anything! It’s been like that for years and it will continue, there will be people misinterpreting these prophecies and modifying them.
Honestly, It’s quite interesting to analyze Nostradamus writings and I understand why people show interest in that. But please, just don’t use it as a valid source of information, unless you’ve analyzed the real quatrain and you’re sure of what you’re saying. Again, it’s so vague that it can be associated with almost any events and only after the events have occurred.
I still think the guy was a genius…To make us all believe what he wrote.
What is that pole shift thing?
Posted by: | CommentsHere’s what people selling books about the end of the world and stuff don’t want you to know. Too much misinformation is going around so that people can cash in!
Pole shift is a rare phenomenon and characterized by the north and the south poles swapping places. Such reversals, recorded in the magnetism of ancient rocks, are unpredictable. They come at irregular intervals averaging about 300,000 years; the last one was 780,000 years ago. There is some sort of hype around pole shift since the fear propaganda has started about the end of the world in 2012 (see my post about 2012).
Pole shift is a process that roughly takes 5,000 years to complete and doesn’t start on a specific date and time and the real truth is that nobody knows when the next one is due. So let’s put an end right now to that 2012 thing before we go any further.
If you came here to know if a pole shift would end our world in 2012, well no.
That being said, to really understand what a pole shift is, we have to take a look at the inner core of our planet. The magnetic field of our planet comes from this inner core, which is mainly a solid ball of iron 70% as wide as the moon and as hot as the sun. It doesn’t spin at the same rate as the earth; it has it’s own rate.
What creates the magnetic field is the convection of molten iron, within the outer liquid core and also with the overall planetary rotation. The creation of the magnetic field can be explained with the dynamo effect: When conducting fluid flows across an existing magnetic field, electric currents are induced, which in turn creates another one. When this new field reinforces the original, a dynamo is created which sustains itself. It’s a little more complicated than that and you can do your own research on magnetic fields and dynamo if you want to have more details about it.
There’s a popular belief that wants a pole shift to completely remove the earth’s magnetic field during it’s reversal. It would then expose the earth to space radiation and solar storms. Well, once again, this ain’t true and here’s why from a NASA article:
They’ve also learned what happens during a reversal. Reversals take a few thousand years to complete, and during that time–contrary to popular belief–the magnetic field does not vanish. “It just gets more complicated,” says Glatzmaier. Magnetic lines of force near Earth’s surface become twisted and tangled, and magnetic poles pop up in unaccustomed places. A south magnetic pole might emerge over Africa, for instance, or a north pole over Tahiti. Weird. But it’s still a planetary magnetic field, and it still protects us from space radiation and solar storms.

To summarize everything, pole shift have happened before and will happen again. We just don’t know when the next one will occur. Like some say, we might be overdue because the last one was 780,000 years ago, but here’s the way I see it:
They come at irregular intervals averaging about 300,000 years and it has now been 780,000 years since the last one. Then we’ve been due for 480,000 years! Where I’m getting at is that your parents generation was also overdue, your grandparents generation was overdue and since the start of civilization on this earth it was overdue. Even the Mayas were overdue. What I’m trying to say is that it could’ve happened way before that and that it can happen tomorrow or in 100,000 years so don’t worry too much about it. Again, the process takes 5,000 years to complete so I bet you won’t notice it too much.
Here’s all the popular beliefs and why it’s not true:
- A pole reversal will happen in 2012. False, it will happen but we don’t know when yet. I’m pretty sure the NASA would be able to confirm if it was even a 2012 possibility.
- A pole reversal would decrease the strength of our magnetic field to near zero. False, it would still be there and as strong as it is now, just more complicated.
- A pole reversal would have terrible impact on our planet. True, but the process takes 5,000 years to complete. It doesn’t happen just like that when you wake up one morning.
- We’re overdue for a pole shift. Maybe, but we’ve been overdue for the past 380,000 years. Our little 2,000 years of history is pretty small in that. Do you believe we don’t know when it’s going to happen?
I hope this article is putting light on the subject because I think it’s an important matter: too much false information is going around about the end of the world in 2012 and pole shift so that people can cash in.
Update: Read What is that pole shift thing part II for answers on the physical pole shift due to the Earth’s crust moving.

How customer service (good or bad) can kill your business
Posted by: | Comments
I’ve done a lot of customer service in the past and I’ve seen some successful as well as bad customer service. The reality is that good or bad, customer service can kill your business.
Of course, you want to offer good service to your customers, no matter what business sector you’re in and it’s the correct way to go. In today’s world, people expect to be treated like loyal customers and they also expect to be answered in a courteous manner. That being said, you have to expect the same from your customers and most of them don’t actually understand that.
Too often you’ll have an extremely good customer service trying to do impossible things for a bad customer. Keep your best service for good customers
Don’t take this last statement wrong, I’m not saying you shouldn’t give good customer service to everyone, you have to. What I’m saying is that your business don’t want bad customers, bad customers will kill your business.
By giving excellent customer support and trying to give the impossible to them, they will come back because they know they can get what they want from you.
Let’s define what a bad customer is. A really good person can be a really bad customer: It’s two completely different things. I actually met a lot of persons that correspond to that description.
A bad customer is a time consuming person that doesn’t bring in revenue. They can be extremely polite and funny but they will suck all your energy for nothing. They’ll seem like good customers at first, but they will come back, unsatisfied for reasons you haven’t thought were possible before and also with unreasonable demands.
So, what to do? How do I avoid bad customers? It’s quite hard to avoid them and it depends a lot of your way of doing business. What you can do is avoid them to come back. Don’t accept exaggerated requests and let them know when it’s the case. They’ll go elsewhere where they can meet their demands.
Good customer service is smart customer service. Be smart when dealing with your customers, listen to them and give them what they deserve: Great customer service for smart customers. It’s a winning solution in the long term.
I think the “Customer is king” thing is now over. It should actually be “The smart customer is king”. There’s too many dumb customers, don’t let them ruin your business.
A late welcome!
Posted by: | CommentsOk, I’m sorry, I realized I started this blog without any introduction. Welcome to Daily Common Sense! The purpose of this blog is mainly to outlines the lack of the most basic common sense in this world. Trust me, it can’t be taken for granted. I’m sure it happened to you more than once at the grocery store, work, school, etc.: You had a “What the hell” moment. A moment where you just don’t realize what’s happening or you’re just completely shocked by the stupidity of the thing. Well, this happens to me all the time! I’m some sort of a magnet for that kind of stories and people are always looking forward to my stories. I’ve done a lot of customer service in the past as part of my students job and I completely lost faith in common sense at that moment. I’ve already posted a couple of articles so have a quick look and stay tuned for more fairly soon!

I think an important thing in life is to remain rational and not being caught in all sorts of fear/war/whatever propaganda. The key to that is being able to detect propaganda. In fact, I’m amazed that propaganda still works really good in today’s world because access to information is so much easy. Access to information and education is key to eliminate propaganda. Well informed people are less likely to believe things that doesn’t make sense because they can make their own objective opinion from things they’ve read or seen. With Wikipedia and all the information available on the internet these days, you don’t have any excuse anymore to be misinformed.
Another common sense classic. This story didn’t happen to me, but to one of my friend. She had to go to the mall and when driving there, she saw a man laying on the ground and he wasn’t moving at all! Surely, this can be a homeless but there’s still a possibility that he needs help. She saw a police car on the other side of the street so she decided the best way to help him fast is to alert the police there directly and they’ll take care of him, and I also think it was the best way. She knocked on the police’s car window and said:
