It’s been quiet lately…Well it’s because I want to go in a different direction. Daily Common Sense has been associated with the 2012 scam/hoax or whatever you want to call it and I want to change that a little bit. You know, I think it’s great that people like my articles about 2012, pole shift and all that stuff, but I feel like I’ve covered it all and want to move on. I receive a lot of emails and comments about “What do you think about that 2012 site?”, “What do you think about that pole shift site?”, “What do you think about that 2012 theory?”, “What do you think about that video?”, etc. I feel very good about that fact that people turn to me to get some advices and I’m very flattered, but I as I said, I want to move on.

I opened the Daily Common Sense forum recently and people are starting to use it a little bit. That was part of my strategy to bring DCS to another level.  You guys can really discuss on that forum and you’ll probably get an answer from the community faster than an answer by email from me! ;)

I’m still figuring out the direction this will all take, but I will definitely try to write about other subjects!

Here’s an interesting piece of nonsense for all of you:

Saying CO2 is no problem because it’s a natural compound is such a weak argumentation. You know, when I breath out, there’s CO2 coming out so there’s no problem or as he said: “It’s no…Big….Deal”. That’s a pretty weak argumentation for a PhD you must admit. It’s like anything in life, you have to keep a certain balance and we now have more CO2 than our poor little Earth can process. It’s not just because it’s a natural compound we can assume it’s harmless. Anyway, I must agree with the man when he says it’s almost a religion but I’m not ready to call global warming a scam.

I read an interesting article today from The Scotsman. The article basically outlines the fact that the last ice age, 13,000 years ago, happened way faster than previously thought:

THE last ice age 13,000 years ago took hold in just one year, more than ten times quicker than previously believed, scientists have warned.
Rather than a gradual cooling over a decade, the ice age plunged Europe into the deep freeze, German Research Centre for Geosciences at Potsdam said.

Cold, stormy conditions caused by an abrupt shift in atmospheric circulation froze the continent almost instantly during the Younger Dryas less than 13,000 years ago – a very recent period on a geological scale.

The new findings will add to fears of a serious risk of this happening again in the UK and western Europe – and soon.

Dr Achim Brauer, of the GFZ (GeoForschungs Zentrum) German Research Centre for Geosciences at Potsdam, and colleagues analysed annual layers of sediments, called “varves”, from a German crater lake.

Each varve records a single year, allowing annual climate records from the region to be reconstructed.

I think it really is important to learn from that and realize how fast climate changes can happen. I’ve said it numerous times on this blog, climate change will be the biggest challenge in the comming years and changes are happening faster than what scientists predicted. That being said, it’s nothing to be scared of, but just a little something that makes you realize how fast these things can happen.

I found a little something on the Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry website and I’d like to share it with you. It’s actually a list of useless but funny body facts most people (that includes me) aren’t aware of. Visit the website for the complete list, but I’ll post some of my favorite here:

Women blink almost twice as much as men.

Fingernails grow faster than toenails and your middle fingernail is the quickest one to grow. It takes about 150 days to grow out a full length fingernail.

Your brain continues to send out electrical wave signals approximately 37 hours after death.

When you were born, you had 350 bones in your body, and after childhood 144 of these bones fused together.

Laughing and coughing put more pressure on the spine than walking or standing.

The eye muscle is the fastest reacting muscle of the whole body. It contracts in less than 1/100th of a second.

Your brain stops growing when you are about 15 years old.

There are some others you can read but these were my favorites!

Here’s the latest scam I’ve found: “Alien Interview: Top secret transcripts from Roswell”. That’s right, for the small fee of 18$ for a paperback, you get:

the complete and unedited top secret transcripts of a series of interviews with an alien survivor of the notorious Roswell UFO crash conducted at the Roswell Army Air Field.

I really have nothing else to say about this, it’s just funny to even consider an Alien interview. Was he speaking English? Anyway, have a quick look!

Today, Daily Common Sense reached the 100,000 visits mark. I just want to thank every DCS reader for making this blog what it is and also a big thanks to a couple of readers that are commenting on this blog since the beginning! ;)

I was doing my daily search for scams and hoaxes and came across a new website about 2012. Of course it has everything you expect from that kind of website and it’s web 0.1 as you’d expect. So nothing irregular there except it has a couple of theories I wasn’t necessarily aware about 2012. You know, it’s kind of hard to keep up with all the crap being spread around about 2012. In fact it’s not just something about 2012, but it’s a general thing called 11:11. Apparently, people all over the world are beginning to notice more and more of these 11:11 sightings. It can appear on your alarm clock, microwave and can also be apparently linked with a lot of the numbers involved in 9/11. I personally don’t feel concerned by that as I haven’t noticed anything like that lately. Anyway, just to a quick search of 11:11 on Google and you’re up for a lot of crap.

I would like to take an example from the website I was talking about previously to explain why these 11:11 things are just a bunch of crap. From the website:

Have you ever looked at the clock and saw the exact same time on a repetitive basis?

This may not be a coincidence. If you Google “11:11″ you’ll receive over 124 million results on this increasingly intriguing phenomena.

Interesting numerology trivia: if you do numerology on 12-21-2012, you get the following:
12+21+2012=2045

2+0+4+5=11

coincidence or not?

God, god, god. Can we please stop using that kind or arguments? I mean, we can figure out other dates that would add up to 11 like this. Why not 13-21-2011 or 12-25-2008? Oh yeah sorry, I know, it has to be related to 2012.

Anyway, I’m just sick of that numerology stuff and remember, it is not a valid argument!

Because of the increasing popularity of DCS and also because I want to keep a decent level of quality to the articles, I’ve decided to adopt a new writing pattern. Until now, my writing pattern has been mostly random: Big/deep articles, small and medium articles all posted whenever I had something to write. From now on, I won’t be posting a big/complete article everyday because that kind of articles need a lot of research and posting a deep article everyday would mean a drop in quality because I can’t spend the entire day doing research.

I will try to post every day one or two small articles about new scams/stupidities/news or whatever fits in what I usually write at DCS. A deeper article will be written once a week and will probably be released on Sundays or Mondays. This way, you will get a consistent feed of news everyday, with a deeper article each week and this will help me keep a good quality level for my articles.

Always remember you can write me directly at dailycommonsense@gmail.com for any news, stories, scams or whatever you would like to see on DCS. You can even write me a little article and if it’s good, I will post your article giving your credit for it.

Thanks for reading DCS!

There’s a couple of great articles on this blog showing increasing popularity and I love it. People seems to love Daily Common Sense and I want to push it a little further and ask you, what would you like to see debunked? Is there anything in life that annoys you, anything you don’t understand or that you would like other people to know about? It’s an opportunity for you to say what you’d like to read on Daily Common Sense! Simply write a comment with your suggestions or drop me an email at dailycommonsense@gmail.com

I’m waiting your suggestions!

I read a funny article on indiadaily.com today. In fact India Daily is always a good fun but that news is quite awesome. I will be starting with just a quote from the article available at India Daily:

The world is getting ready for something spectacular in 2012. According to researchers, the Federation of the Universe representing all the 88 star constellations will officially visit earth in 2012 and reveal themselves. It will bring an end to all UFO cover-ups in various countries.

In many countries all over the world the rumors are floating around that many Governments are being contacted at this time slowly to announce their presence and coming official visit.

According to some, the human civilization has finally reached a level when the earth can officially become part of the Federation of the Universe.

They want an order and mo panic among people. A slow but steady process is on to slowly make people of the world ready to see the representatives of the Federation of the Universe. The world can finally become an official member of the Federation.

The Federation represents all the 88 constellations of stars.

Do I really need to comment that?

I think the “Federation of the Universe representing all the 88 star constellations” is quite funny. Just the name doesn’t make sense: representing star constellations. Who would want to rule over stars? They are just fire balls! Maybe if it was called “Federation of the Universe representing 88 near earth galaxies” that would have been much more credible, that would at least mean the Federation are representing planets, not god damn fire balls.

Anyway, can’t wait for that visit…

Rubik's CubeHow to solve a Rubik’s Cube? There’s a popular belief that solving the Rubik’s Cube is really hard. People being able to solve it maybe are keeping a tight secret around it because they look good when solving it in front of people but the truth is that once you’ve learned how to do it, it’s plain logic and it can be done quite fast. I’m writing this how to solve the Rubik’s Cube post because I know that there’s so many persons that once got frustrated by the cube! Daily Common Sense is not just about human stupidity and common sense, it’s also about sharing knowledge and that’s why I feel the need to share how to solve the Rubik’s Cube. I won’t do a complete analysis of the Rubik’s Cube and I won’t show a list of 100 movements you don’t even understand like many “How to solve a Rubik’s Cube” articles on the internet. You can’t show how to solve the Rubik’s Cube on paper, it’s too boring and complicated. For that reason, we need a video! Here’s a tutorial from Dan Brown on You Tube and it’s by far the best tutorial available on the Internet. It’s extremely well explained and you can have a fully solved cube within a couple of minutes! After that you’ll be able to say: “I can solve a Rubik’s Cube!” and impress your friends and family. But don’t forget to share the knowledge, it’s key to Daily Common Sense! Oh and by the way, once you rock at solving the Rubik’s Cube, use my online Rubik’s Cube timer to time yourself!

PART I

PART II

This doesn’t really have a lot to do with Daily Common Sense stuff but I thought I’d share it.

As some of you might know, I’ve developed a Rubik’s Cube timer, which can also be used as a whatever you want timer because it’s just a lot more complete than any regular timer.

I built a Google gadget for it and I think it might be really useful. We all need a timer one day and it would be at hand in your Google personalized page. So Here’s the gadget, add it to your Google page! Just click the “+ Google” image at the bottom of the gadget.

Try it here if you want to see what it looks like:

Ok, I’m sorry, I realized I started this blog without any introduction. Welcome to Daily Common Sense! The purpose of this blog is mainly to outlines the lack of the most basic common sense in this world. Trust me, it can’t be taken for granted. I’m sure it happened to you more than once at the grocery store, work, school, etc.: You had a “What the hell” moment. A moment where you just don’t realize what’s happening or you’re just completely shocked by the stupidity of the thing. Well, this happens to me all the time! I’m some sort of a magnet for that kind of stories and people are always looking forward to my stories. I’ve done a lot of customer service in the past as part of my students job and I completely lost faith in common sense at that moment. I’ve already posted a couple of articles so have a quick look and stay tuned for more fairly soon!
