"It's the end! The Mayans said so! Discovery Channel says it so it must be right! Screw what NASA says, they are lying. The government is hiding it! You, me, and everybody will die in 2012!"

Now if you beleive that shit, I feel sorry for you. The most popular topic these days are on the 2012 Doomsday. When I first heard about it, I nearly pissed my pants. I started to cry, not wanting to die, when my parents talked me out of it. Of course that's never good enough for everyone. So, with my pants soiled, I went to my computer and searched up 2012. I saw so many websites claiming the end and giving "evidence" for it and videos on YouTube. The Discovery Channel through me over the edge. I couldn't sleep for months. Then, calming down, I searched for more scientific evidence and more credible websites other than "Survive2012.com", which is full of shit. There are so many things linking to the famous "December 21, 2012" date. The most referenced link, is the end of the Mayan Long Count Calender.

OK, so let me get this straight...you are saying the world is going to end because ONE OF THE MANY Mayan calenders ends on that date? Hmmm...OH SHIT! No, people overlook the calender all the time. Now, I don't know the exact terms and what not, but the calender simply keeps going and restarts. Just like our calender on our refridgerator. We are currently in the some sort of Barkas or whatever its called, a Barkas (I literally don't have a clue what the exact term is...it was close to "Barkas" so I'm using that) lasts like 394 years or some shit. The current one we are in ends on 12/21/12. "Oh no! The calender ends?! Oh my God!" Save it, bro. Barkases (I bet I am totally off on what it's really called, huh) have ended before. This one just simply restarts into another Barkas. Woohoo.

I also want to point out that the end of the long count calender is a huge celebration in Mayan culture. So yeah. Try not to worry on that hoax.

Now another one is the great Polar Shift. DUN DUN DUN! This one is funny because people are saying it shifts on that exact day. He. Polar shifts take like 5,000 years to complete. And they don't start on a given day and hour. And sadly that is the only thing that is scientific that sorta could have something to do with a doomsday on 2012...and it's bullshit! Haha!

Another one is the Galactic Alignment or something? Well it's the first time this happens in 26,000 years or so...uh oh! No. It's happened before. Did the earth get completely destroyed last time? Uhhh...no. The earth has been around for millions of years, which means it has survived many Galactic Alignments.

I love this one - Nostadamous. Haha. Like we're going to listen to some crazy old "prophet" that lived like centeries ago. Hehehe. Wait, we are? Damn. Actually he is not a valid argument. He didn't predict shit. And PLEASE don't connect him to 9/11 or anything because he didn't predict that. People also said he predicted 1999...and we are still alive. Huhh...

One stupid link is the WebBot. Wait...WebBot...the same WebBot that has had more failed predictions than anything? Hmmm. They say it can predict earthquakes too...NOBODY CAN PREDICT EARTHQUAKES! And the thing is connected to the Internet...where there are more "THE END IS 2012!" articles on the internet than anything. And the WebBot is connected to the internet...reading these bogus articles. Beleiving it. Hmmmm...never trust a machine, people.

OK There are many more hoaxes but I'm tired of writing. So I hope I just made all of your fears go away because the information I looked up to know this helped me figure out it is all bullshit. Remember Y2K? Same thing. Don't beleive the 2012 movie because it starts with a solar flare in 2009...We are in November 2009 as I am writing this...no solar flare yet! And there are two more movies on the subject in the works, so more people will be scared...hopefully you will be smart and not fall for it. As 2012 draws nearer, either the planet will be in panic and scared shitless...or people will soon realize its a hoax. I hope it's the second one so more little kids and teenagers and adults wont be scared for something that won't happen.

Thanks and see you all in 2013.

I just found this forum and am really impressed. I watched the video of Ben and you seem very level headed, something that is quite rare in this time. I sooo dont want to sound patronising / condescending, I just felt that I had to comment, such was my impression!!!

I wanted to contribute with a thread about the world's organised religions. I live in Bulgaria, but originally from Northern Ireland, so I have seen the worst that religion can offer. The biggest mystery to me peronsally in this world, and probably in common with most people is how did we come into existence, what was there before time began, all mind blowing stuff. The second biggest mystery to me, is why do hundreds of millions of otherwise intelligent people throw complete caution to the wind and follow fictitious world religions. Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Bhudism, Hindhuism, the indigenous religions etc, all complete b******t. In my view no different to the extinct or nearly extinct Pagan, Aztec, Mayan, Old Egyptian, Old Roman, Old Greek relgions. Religion is two a penny and does more harm than good. It gives me no satisfaction to make these statements, I wish for nothing more than for there to be such a simple structure in the universe, although I dont fear death myself, I do fear the passing of family, but no matter how painful this process will be oneday I refuse to become another self delusional zombie.

By now you are probably thinking I am an atheist, but the truth is I am somewhere closer to agnostic. If there is a higher nature in the realm that we cannot understand then I am certain that it has nothing whatsoever to do with Allah or Jesus or any of the other fallacies that are out there. Although I have a cautious optimism at times that there may be something after death that falls within the sphere of science in line with Einstein's beliefs that everything we do in life lives on forever in time and is almost like imprinted on a little part of the universe.

Much of religion defies common logic For example....

1. If Adam and Eve were two caucasian Jewish people, just where did the first black people come from, never mind the Chinese etc??

2. If the Noah's Ark really did save two of every species on the planet, he must have been really busy making his way to the Galapagos Islands, Australia etc, and a thoroughly decent guy to leave them back there after the floods had ended.

3. The age of the earth. Many people who follow a religion just wont accept the fossil records and radio carbon dating, but for me this is tangible evidence that no religion can offer.

4. The only reason we follow Christianity in the west is because the Roman Emperor Constantine took a political decision to convert the Roman Empire to Christianity. If this had not happened, then the bulk of the population would be following a completely different religion today.

5. The simplistic idea that God made the earth, the sun, the heavens etc in 7 days is ridiculous. The Catholic Church fought for so many years against the idea the world was round and look where that one finished up. Take a look a the intensely beautiful pictures from the Hubble Space Telescope, then look up the number of stars there are in our galaxy the Milky Way, something like 100,000,000,000, and also something like 100,000,000,000 galaxies, thats a lot of stars just like our own the sun, when you multiply the figures out. It also makes for a lot of effort by "God" just to make us some nice background scenery ! Seriously though, our star the sun is no more significant than a grain of sand in the Sahara Desert, which makes me even seriously doubt the tales of alien visitations to this planet, while there may be life out there, we couldnt be that important to them.

It sometimes amazes me to the core that in such a technologically advanced country as America, the bulk of the population are still believing fairy tales. Thankfully while maybe 70% of Americans believe in Christianity, in the UK where I am from originally the opposite is the case, with around 70% disbelieving and accepting Darwin's theories, which is just as well as he does appear on the British £10 note as one of the best scientists Britain ever had.

Anyway I just wanted to start a new thread, so feel free to discuss or argue with my points!...................................

This is for the people who are fearing about 2012 as end of the world......

I really feel sorry for you all!!!! I can see people who drive crazy and lead to the end of someone else's and their own life. There is no theory or the proof or the evidence behind this end, which is purely common sense and the need to follow your responsiblities while driving. This applies to our every aspect of day life. If we don't think about this end which could happen at any point of time, why are you thinking about 2012 which got no practical clue... So be practical and use your common sense and time in constructing something for better human life......

C U ALL ON 31st Dec,2012.......for welcoming 2013 on DCS......

Let us talk about 2012 in TV, Movies, and more. Have you seen the trailer for 2012. This is stupid how they tell you to google search 2012 to purposely scare you. It's just stupid. Also History channel is making a special on it but what I find laughable about it is that the main topic of it is Nostradamus' prediction, which just shows that this is going to be incredibly biased. So, what do you guys think of all this?

Jesus is coming back VERY SOON!. Yes only God knows EXACTLY when! But we are able to see that it is during this generation. Through the ever escalating power of major earthquakes on the Richter scale, and their higher number of occurrences like the birth pangs of a pregnant women as the Bible tells us. He tells us in His word that He shall come like a thief in the night, meaning even Christians will be surprised when He comes, let alone people who have no interest in life eternal, or being ready when He returns for His people dead in the graves and alive today! We will soon run into this choice, to follow man's laws or God's laws (the 10 commandments). A national Sunday Law to worship is coming to the United States, and then the rest of the world, forcing Sunday worship! I know it sounds KOOKY! Go to my blog and watch 3 very short videos!
www.MarkoftheBeasttruth.wordpress.com You will be up to speed on what's coming. It will be the final loyalty test from God. Those who serve Him, and those who serve Him not!. NO ONE will receive the mark until they understand what is at stake, and then make their decision to knuckle under man's law (Nat Sunday Law) or to follow the 4th commandment (REMEMBER the sabbath (Saturday) day to keep it holy. No it is not for the Jews, as there were none one God created the earth! This is TRUTH my brothers and sisters! It will not be a chip forced into your wrist or forehead! You will either receive the Mark of the Beast by being a Sunday worshipper ignoring God's commandment to keep His Sabbath Day Holy, or you will receive the "seal of God in your forehead. These will not be visible to us only God.

Common sense went out the window when modern science admits to the fact that the "ACT OF OBSERVATION" can change the outcome of an experiment. also that random.....is no longer random.

NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE!

Highly advanced technology to the untrained eye is indistinguishable from MAGIC!

300 years ago if you said that man would walk on the moon, they would ask you what kind of magic would you use.

ask the sumerian people what magic they used to see the solarsystem with! AS WELL AS RECORD THE PLANETS AS BEING ROUND REVOLVING AROUND THE SUN

before you start spreading your idea of common sense on worldly issues, i suggest you get some common knowledge of worldly truths.

2012.… Its many things. The end of the world? The Beginning of a New Age? Elaborate Hoax? New Age B.S.?

No one knows for certain what surprises await us on 12/22/12... But the way the worlds looking, we should be prepared for anything. Fact: Evolution of life is all around us… But, we are blind to the evolution of Self… or are we? This world which we “think” we inhabit has done a lot for us, as we’ve done a lot to it… But, we don’t simply inhabit this world. We are a PART of it. It’s the cycle of life that we are all aware of…
Now, if we are a part of this planet, doesn’t that mean that we, too, are part of the universe? Or maybe we aren’t.. if that’s what you really believe. The fact is, there’s a lot more to life than sex, drugs, and money.. We just have to open our minds up to the infinite possibilities of the universe. Maybe that’s not here, nor there.. Maybe it is… My point is, our collective minds have been on a long evolutionary journey. I say collective minds, because we all really have the same mind at that first moment of life on Earth.
Its only through the circumstances we face, which makes us who we are. And we, the children of this “supposed” New Age have to deal with circumstances never before seen in this time. Our minds are being greatly altered by a whole manner of things… just look around you, if your Aware, you’ll know what I mean. I think this is a good thing, though.. Its part of our species evolution. It allows us to become something Truly great.

Yeah, no one knows what’s going to happen in 2012... But if we don’t change our ways, we might not get to find out. We, all of us, has the power to change for the better. Let go of petty human inventions like fear and greed… although, fear IS what’s destroying us.. Every other so-called “Sin” derives from fear. So don’t fear, just embrace those you care about.. Its all about Love, Peace, And Harmony, and we KNOW this… so isn’t it about time we start living it?

We ARE the peace-makers we’ve been waiting for.

Love.

I don't want the world to end in the near future. I am a kind, loving Christian. I want to get married and have kids the most, and I won't tolerate not experiencing that stuff. I don't care if I go to heaven on Dec. 21, 2012. To be honest, sometimes I think I should rather get married and have kids right away and be a teenage father and go to the other place for my consequences than go to Heaven and be with Jesus and not get married and have kids at all. Sorry, I just need attention.

The reason I am worried again is because 2012 has more "facts" than all the other prophecies combined. Can someone help debunk this?

Oh, yeah, and no one else cares. They all tell me to "get over it." They don't care about poor kid's future intentions.

I reckon that the Mayans knew about numbers and knew about time. Thus they knew that they would have to stop writing their calender at some point or someone would be writing it for a very long time! So, they used the best reminder that they could as the last day of 'the calender'! And yeah, I expect they would have had a massive party if they had made it as a civilization up until now! Who knows what they would have achieved? Perhaps they got fed up and went to another planet in their space craft?

On the issue of the world changing in 2012 I have mixed feelings. This is my interpretation of how things work and is likely how the Mayan's viewed things as well. First it is important to understand that while it is ever changing and chaotic, everything in the known universe runs on cycles, rotations, and repetition at its most basic level. This phenomenon was observed by many ancient cultures around the world and it is no surprise that they formed similar conclusions. The reason for this worldwide astronomical understanding is that the ancient world was so much more connected to the cosmos then we are today, their lives depended on it! Modern cultures are dulled by the instant gratification of information that sprung from technologies like the web in the 1990's, and by television in the 1950's, and by radio in the early 1900's and as far back as the first mass printed material that was widely available. In ancient times, information we may see as trivial today was something magical to them, a treasure that was known only by a select few and in many cases was only available by word of mouth, or kept in sacred places like Stonehenge, the tombs and temples in Egypt, or other ancient fonts of knowledge.

With that said, and all of us in agreement that the universe runs on cycles, rotations, and repetition, the next bit of information we need to discuss is; ancient cultures like the Maya realized they were not indispensable. Unlike modern people the Maya knew, or at least were consciously aware that they were floating around on a rock, in the middle of space, and were helplessly susceptible to an onslaught of cosmic cycles and phenomenon outside of their control. They began to watch….who knows for how long. They began to make associations with these cycles; and cataloged the behaviors of men as well as the Earth and viewable cosmos when they occurred in something called a codex. In fact, their entire culture was built around these associations. So the information in the codex referring to events or dates on the calendar would not be prophecy at all, but perhaps thousands of years of observation and associating various cosmic and earthly cycles/events and mans usual reaction to them.

What the Mayan codex associated with this coming cycle was rapid societal change, upheaval, an awakening of human consciousness, a return to the Earth, and water…. I suppose you can weave doom into that, but this would have been a glorious and profound thing to them, a time of rebirth and growth. The beginning of a new cycle. A resetting of the calendar. And yes, the calendar does in fact go on, there are many references to dates and times beyond 2012.

Do I feel things will begin to change with the coming cycle? Most definitely. Do I feel the Earth will end by a giant planet smashing into us, or a some other Earth ending event? No I do not. Something as epic as the destruction of the Earth and its gravitational orbit would disrupt the entire flow of the cosmic cycles, and possibly even cause damage elsewhere in the galaxy. I just don’t feel it is going to happen that way. If I am wrong and it does occur, I still doubt it will be meant as a judgment or some other form of punishment on humanity. Humans are just not that important on a universal scale. It is our own intelligence, fear and arrogance as a species that puts us in a position of importance in our own minds. When in reality, life on Earth was here a long, long time before we were, and is likely to be here long after we are gone. We are frankly little more than a self-destructive footnote in cosmic history.

I have been worried about most of the 2012 things for almost a year now, until I really took up a lot of time to check out some of the smarter sites (such as here) and cleared up almost all of my fears. However, one that I have yet to understand is the I Ching software theory and how it shows 2012 as the end. I was wondering if someone on the forums or at the site could help me understand this theory and how it is/isn't valid.

I heard some stuff about aliens MENT to invade earth on October 14th 2008, Of course, nothing happened but I would just like to know more about this failed prediction!

But what has kinda creeped me out is that, OK... It's a long story! In 1977, someone claiming to be an alien hijacked signals on 12 TV stations in the UK, the ''thing'' made a long speech. It was somehow connected to the October 14th thing, According to the net. Yeah, sure, The hijack could of just been a human making a hoax but as that was 1977, it would be quite hard to do!

Here is a clip of the hijack on The ITN News Channel.

I've read and heard all kinds of comments on the Galactic Alignment and center. I spent some time trying to figure out how something trivial like this could begin to be viewed even from farcical points of view as potentially dangerous.

Forget about who or why 2012 was picked for a little bit, I have plenty of nonsense theory to provide for this as well. What I would like to know is if anyone has information to debunk the idea of us entering into or too close to a galactic bow shock wave. Our Galaxy is moving towards the Virgo cluster of galaxies. Virgo contains around 3000 galaxies, our cluster is smaller this is why we are heading this direction. The solar system does cross the galactic 'Plain' every 26,000 years which last occurred in 2003 without incident, but the edge of the Galaxy that is positioned at the front of our movement happens only every 226 Million years. Think more like passing the Galactic Prime Meridian rather than the Equator and the prime meridian is the front of our Galactic vehicle. As our own solar system travels around the Galaxy it too has what is described as a Bow Shock wave ahead of it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bow_shock
The collision of particles ahead of the magnetosphere produces a great deal of cosmic radiation. We do not feel terrible effects of cosmic rays due to the Suns large Magnetosphere and our Own Earths Magnetosphere.
Those who don't believe global warming is Man's fault often sight the answer lies in the Solar Cycle. I would be someone who doesn't believe the science is in on either side of the warming argument, and I assure you I am listening both sides. There are studies that attempt to connect the suns cycles of higher solar wind activity to weather phenomenon we have seen. Some say it increases cloud cover, I've also heard that as the winds push on the magnetosphere it causes jet stream patterns to Arc to and from the poles creating warming near the caps and pulling colder air toward the equator. This aside, the point is cosmic radiation might have an effect on weather patterns. Also the magnetosphere flexes with the movement of the core and the radiation forces externally acting on it.
http://eprints.whiterose.ac.uk/4060/1/brownb1.pdf
The Galileo mission to Jupiter's moon IO recorded volcanic eruptions higher than we anticipated possible. The plate tectonics were clearly influenced by Jupiter’s Gravity, but there was an extra boost to the propellant attributed to electrical arcing from Jupiter’s Magnetic field which is many times larger than Earth's. Electrical theory says that when you pass a current through a wire you get a corresponding magnetic field on its exterior. In the reverse direction if you move a magnetic field over a wire/conductor you get electrical current. The point here is magnetisms effects on magma.

What would a bow shock wave caused by something as massive as a Galaxy be like?
It would seem that a mass moving into an empty space should cause no such wave, however a theory of quantum physics states that on average space is not empty. There are particles that the Galaxy's mass, gravitational waves, emitted particles would most likely be colliding with. Why would there be no such shock wave.

So the sum of all this is, what if in 2012, despite how we arrived at this date, we arrive at a point in our orbit where we are in a region of space with intense cosmic radiation, with the sun between us and the Galaxy, leaving some of our Magnetic protection on the wrong end of the solar system for us, outside of the Galaxy's magnetic influences as well as we climb above the Galactic latitudinal plane. Additionally our current Solar Maximum is scheduled to end in the year 2012. Would a super intense wave of cosmic radiation compress our magnetosphere towards our core, agitating our magma energy enough, influencing our weather patterns subtly enough for disasters, bathing organisms in enough radiation to cause death and unviable mutation to actually lend some credence to this 2012 myth?
http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/070423_cosmic_evo.html
Some also refer to this side of the Galaxy as the North Side for you Nostradamas people.
Again, forget how the date was arrived at, from a science stand point, please present the evidence against.

Here's a quote off some forum on RetroJunk:

"Y2K made no sense. 2012 make perfect sense. Natures kicking our ass with the barrage of catastrophic natural disasters, plus anywhere trees happen to be are getting chopped down to make more room for more neighborhoods, thus taking away our oxygen in exchange for more money. Plus people are starting to kill each other more at an alarming rate, PLUS Al Gore can't stop global warming from frying our asses like eggs.

Plus the Aztecs said it would happen. And Chance. Neither one of them said shit about Y2K.

Denial is futile, Matt 0_0"

What the heck? I don't even believe in global warming.

And NASA predicting an Ice Age in 2022. Will we be able to adapt?
