I saw on NASA that they Predict a New Ice Age for 2022, I Really Do Hope not!

http://www.winningreen.com/site/epage/59549_621.htm (This is not NASA but talks about them)

I'll try to find The NASA Page soon as I lost it!

Don't worry. Maybe it won't happen. My mom thinks that even though NASA is a credible source, since it's the 'net, even their website can be unreliable. Besides, I think I might be married and having at least one kid then. I will be 30 or 31 years old then. Did they say the month on when its supposed to happen?

I went to The NASA Ask an Astro-Biologist Thing and asked about it and even The NASA Scientist, David Morrison doesn't even believe I even found that on a NASA Website!

He said it's a Load of Nonsense!

    I'm 13 so I'll be in My 20's then!

WHAT?! He doesn't believe you found that on a NASA website? And does he check any NASA websites?

  5. im almost positive that the sun cycle "peaks" ever 11 years. and it always has been for a very, very long time.

im not sure if 2022 is the correct date, but if it is then the sun will peak in 2011 and did in 2000

    im alex...

I know it's Weird that David didn't Believe I found that on a NASA Website.

Sorry I still haven't found The NASA Page!

All The Pages I've seen about this (Apart from NASA's) while doing Research on it have been around 2005 and 2006, hopefully this Whole Thing is not True anymore!

It might not be, since it's all from 2005 and 2006. Unless the actual NASA article was recent. Was it recent?

A couple of years ago The Guardian newspaper(UK) published an article about recent emergency exercises that had being going on at the Pentagon, which were all based on an Ice Age scenario.

Scientists have said that global warming could possibly trigger an ice age. The thermohaline current which traverses the worlds oceans has slowed down in the past because of an increased amount of freshwater pouring into the Arctic. The freshwater run off can slow the current down because the current only works if there is enough heavy, salty water to sink and drive the conveyor, which in turn carries heat from the tropics into the temperate regions. The UK is only as warm as it is because we are on the edge of the current. If it stops, things will get cold. It has slowed down in the past, quite recently, when a Greenland glacier melted which was the barrier between a huge lake and the Sea (I am a bit sketchy on the actual dates and places but Google 'mini Ice Age' should bring up something, it is a well known and recorded event). The result was a drop in the salinity of the sea and thus the water wasn't heavy enough to sink and drive the thermohaline current. The thermohaline current is one of the major reasons that the planet is as warm as it is. It carries heat from the equator to the poles.

So, there is a very real possibility that the world could tip into an ice age as a result of global warming. Predicting when an ice age will next happen is not possible, however. Saying that an ice age is going to happen in any year is total fantasy. Predicting natural events is very difficult. Governments pour millions into scientific research which aims to predict earthquakes and volcanoes and they are still a long way off from doing that. They can't even write a realistic climate simulation for the planet with todays computing power so how someone claims to be able to predict any major event like an ice age or pole switch (another switch will occur-predicting it is sci-fi) is beyond me!

I hope that made some common sense!

    Peace and love

That's a good point! Infact, I do remember seeing somewhere on Google that Scientists thought The World would tip into a new ice age in 1970 as temperatures got so low, (I THINK!) but they were wrong but now things have moved on a bit since 1970, there is more chance of scientific organizations like NASA being right though there still not always right.

  12. No one knows when the next ice age is coming but i promise not in 13 years.

why? Well our planet is getting hoter so i rest my case.

do you think NASA, the gov't, OR the mass media would pester you with such problems as an ice age? would they want to wake you from your everyday routine of going to work, spending money, and putting money in the pockets of those who make the decisions....?

our planet is hotter? i think i read a nasa article relating to how not just OUR planet is getting hotter in the neighborhood....

I note a high level of confidence in the NASA website.
    Why would you hold this.
NASA is just another government organ.
There have been many cases of fraud and cover ups committed by government organs.
Any true skeptic would not need to be reminded of this inconvenient truth.

Sodden, I can understand why you would say that, but you do realize that the two go hand in hand, right? If the earth heats up and melts glaciers, the temperature of the water will change. When that changes, the global current that regulates the oceans' water will slow down because it takes cool water to warmer waters and vice versa. If the waters all start to cool because some glaciers (like the western peninsula in Antarctica) melt, then the system shuts down, dropping the global temperature.
Now, if it drops by one degree, scientists notice and are like, "Oh, did you see that report for the year? The earth dropped by one degree. We should see what's up. Let's get a sandwich first though." If it drops by three degrees, scientists are like, "We need to check this out NOW. No lunch breaks for anybody." *In the background: Aww! But I wanted to trade my Jello for Bob's Rice Crispie!*
Anyways, you see what I mean, right?

Pardon me for being cynical but... It seems to work like this: Scientists doing research need funding - lots of it.
So Mr Scientist goes to Mr Government Person and says something like "I think I see a big problem ahead. We are all going to roast - please give me a few millions (or billions) and I will look into it for you" Mr Government Person says "Wow yes - better do that - here is a lot of cash - keep us informed wont you?"
Evidence then builds up that we are not going to roast and whatever is blamed for causing that is proven to be not involved anyway. Now remember Mr Scientist cannot work without vast sums of money so what can he do about that inconvenient truth?
Of course: he goes back to Mr Government Person and says "Sorry old bean I got it wrong - I can see that now, silly me BUT look at this data. It seems to be that we will all die in a big freeze instead. Better give me more cash and I will get right on that for you"
All throughout my long-ish life we have had one or other of the above scare stories alternating every decade - just as we have also had all those scientists working away with their government money.
