Some particularities of conspiracy comments

Daily Common Sense is a well established blog in its field and I published a lot of articles to debunk scams/hoax and conspiracy theories. For that reason, you can imagine I receive hate comments from conspiracists on a daily basis. I must say conspiracists/doomsdayers just confirm how crazy they are for most of them when they comment on blogs. I mean, it’s simply crazy and here’s why.

Usually, when I write a controversial article like the ones on 2012, pole shift or whatever, I receive tons of comments (700+ on 2012 explained) and it’s really nice to read everyone’s opinion on the subject. I don’t expect everyone to agree with me and I don’t want everyone agree with me: I don’t hold the absolute truth and I guess nobody does. In fact, it’s quite interesting when you guys don’t agree with me and I feel like we can have a decent rational discussion. The problem comes when bloody conspiracists/doomsdayers enter the discussion. While they say they are “open minded”, their comments are totally closed to any form of discussion because apparently we just are a bunch of jerks. That is without mentioning that they write every single comment in capital letters. Where does that need to write in capital letters comes from? I don’t know, but it’s really a particularity of doomsdayers. On top of that, they are the only persons who don’t understand they are writing on a damn blog and that the author of the article is approving every single comment going through. I mean, I’m sure most people understand that when they are writing a comment on my blog, attacking me personally with not argument will result in the comment not being approved. You know, common sense. Well, conspiracists/doomsdayers don’t understand simple things like that. Let’s look at a recent comment I received and it’s a good lesson of what not to write:

WOW ALL OF YOU MAKE ME VERY SAD ONLY PEOPLE AS IGNORANT AS ALL OF YOU CAN’T SEE THE WORD IS CHANGING WRIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU.WHY DONT SOME OF YOU DO MORE RESEARCH IN HISTORY AND SEE HOW IT HAS BEEN PROVEN THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO OUR WORLD BEFORE IT IS A PROCESS IT MUST GO THREW.. INSTEAD OF ONLY LOOKING AT YOU TUBE VIDEOS(YOU PEOPLE MAKE ME SAD THAT THERE ARE STILL SO MANY IGNORANT PEOPLE IN OUR WORLD GOOD THING THIS IS GOING TO HAPPEN THAT WAY ALL YOU MORONS WILL BE WIPED OUT

Ok, first of all, why write everything in capital letters? There’s no way I would approve a comment written in capital letters simply because there’s no reason to do so and it sounds very aggressive. Now there’s at least two good insults in there: “Only people as ignorant as all of you”, “You people make me sad that there are still so many ignorant people in our world good thing this is going to happen that way all you morons will be wiped out”. How do you want me to take such a person seriously? How do you expect to have a decent discussion with such person? I mean, when I said these “open minded” people are totally closed to any form of discussion, that’s what I meant. This comment is also a personal attack to a lot of people, writing on a blog is not like writing on a wall: there’s someone approving every single comment and that person happens to be me. Do you seriously think that by insulting me and every reader of this website and also proving your point with non-logical information will result in the comment being approved? No.

This is just simply amazing. Maybe 98% of the comments I receive are decent comments and I approve them. Unfortunately, the 2% I don’t approve is often from ‘conspiracists/doomsdayers’ and it’s not because they don’t agree with me: It’s because they don’t know how to behave. I’m trying not to be too hard on them, but they don’t help themselves.

    i completely agree with you, these people seem to have forgotten that we are all humans and get scared, i mean, where is the point in getting us scared? :(
    i have been doing some research on the subject and i found this paragraph on the subject:
    “The Long Count Calendar of the Ancient Mayans ends on Dec 21 2012. There isn’t much information regarding what the Mayans thought would occur in 2012, but the consensus of opinion is that there will be great change. To some people this means a positive, spiritual change. Other, like myself, consider that a catastrophic event may have been predicted. Read more about the Mayan Calendar.”
    i mean he specifies this is HIS interpretation
    and gosh look what i just found:

    Future chapters will look into:

    * Global Grids
    * Evolution
    * Unicorns
    * Space Threats
    * Elders
    * Carbon Dating
    * Myths
    * Doomsday Scenarios
    * How and where to survive

    unicorns? excuse me?!! oh nooo you didnt!
    and in another website i found this: (which i consider to be just
    mean…)

    You have no idea of how bad and difficult it will be. Even in the worst war you are able to find some water and food if you are a bit handy. After the catastrophe it will be much more complicated than that. The chemical dump will be unimaginable. The nuclear holocaust horrifying. Billions of liters of oil will not only make the world seas uninhabitable, but also cover huge parts of land with dirty grunge. Worldwide food and water supplies will be destroyed, possibly during many years. Famish and numerous diseases will be the result.
    At present you are not used to this anymore, you are leading a luxurious life. The least can make you sick. Despite my good intentions I am afraid of the worst for many. But that is the price you will have to pay for your survival. Should you want to take the chance, I wish you the best of luck. In any case, I am your man.

    is it really worth the stomachache it causes me?
    and by the way, both of these websites are trying to sell a book…

    quoting a very pretty song:

    And the truth is such a funny thing
    With all these people
    Keep on telling me
    They know what’s best
    And what to be frightened of
    And all the rest are wrong
    They know nothing about us
    They know nothing about us

    i dont know, i just wanted to express myself a bit, because every time i try to give this topic a rest i find myself hours later glued to the freaking computer searching for more stuff…

    Ben,

    I agree entirely with your sentiments. However it should come as no surprise to you that you receive such drivel. After all, 98% of people are idiots.

    I know that may sound harsh, but through personal experiences, I now take it as a fact. I mean the sooner you accept that 49 out of every 50 people is a thoughtless, creativeless drone, the sooner you can get on with your life without being constantly surprised by the level of idiocy your average person is capable of unleashing.

    Like religion, baseless conspiracy theories such as 2012, are an opiate of the masses: a really interesting idea until you actually apply 1 iota of common sense to it. Then the whole shebang falls apart.

    If I were you I wouldn’t even give these morons the bandwidth by publishing their cretinous ramblings. But I respect your decision to hold them up as an example of utter buffoonery.

    cheers

    Ah, I make em and sometimes hate em….ignorant????? Their spelling is not to be desired…lol.
    Quote;
    “IS CHANGING WRIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU”….you do mean “right”
    “A PROCESS IT MUST GO THREW.. you do mean “through”

    and who are those morons that are going to be wiped out?
    Now that is funny. A typo is a terrible thing that we all do but saying one is sad because of …blah blah blah and then wishing morons to be wiped out…a little extreme here.
    I love opinions and debate, it brings out the best….errrr… the worst …ummmmm well it works.

    I love the fact that he states: “…ALL YOU MORONS WILL BE WIPED OUT”. Yet he refuses to state how he will survive. Presumably he will be wiped out too? Moron.

    @Julieta: Thanks for your awesome comment, feel free to express yourself more often in here! ;)

    @Craig: Good to hear from you buddy. I don’t mind giving them some bandwidth, it makes me feel good to talk about it, it’s too much for one person! ;) I also love the quote about the morons being wiped out…

    @David:I know, the grammar is so bad…and the comment so disrespectful!

    I only discovered this excellent site after trying to find out what the hell a friend of mine (an avid consumer of internet drivel) was rambling on about when he said the world was going to end in 2012.

    I believe that the conspiracy nuts (of all and any hue) are basically adopting a faith based position, like with established religions. It doesn’t matter what evidence you produce, they have faith, they believe, and all that evidence could have been faked by ‘Them’, too. Arguing with them is the same as arguing with a religious fundamentalist. I believe that these people have their conspiracies as a religion, perhaps because they can’t/won’t tolerate the discipline required to be part of organized religion. It’s religion for users and losers, basically. Do these people know, for example, that a book called ‘The Jupiter Effect’ (1974) predicted much the same kind of thing (planetary gravitational alignment causes earthquakes, end of life as we know it, etc.) for March 10th 1982? Even the author retracted his opinion before the due date, but that didn’t stop hundreds of idiots running around like headless chicken-lickens, thinking the sky would fall. Just as they did in 1988, when that old fraud in a beret, Nostradamus, said the world would end. Just as they did back in 1666 (because it was the year 1000, plus the number of the beast, and that must mean something, right, man?)

    Best advice is to remember that the internet (despite its many good points) can be considered a giant sounding-board for foghorning idiots. So buy their stuff, and then sell it back to them at vastly inflated sums in 2013.

    (PS. Today’s book recommendation is ‘How Mumbo Jumbo Conquered The World’, by UK author Francis Wheen, and whose arguments I have paraphrased above!)

    Yeah, I do agree with all of you, pretty much… Like I’ve said before, the main thing is not to fear. If the world does come to an end, It’ll most likely be because of us.

    Now, that being said, If the world is saved, it will be because of us. We just need to be more aware of our surroundings and the consequences our choices will have, as a whole, not an individual.

    And I think the doomsayers like to type like that because, well… isnt it obvious?

    Just picture the old doomsayers, with their signs with big letters, yelling at everyone…

    They think they are open minded.. but what they are is open to fear, for the most part. And they want everyone else to fear with them.

    Misery loves company…

    Love.

    I just wonder why it seems that people who write in all caps tend to not be able to spell simple words correctly. I just wanted somewhere to say that because it drives me crazy. I don't want to say it is an indication of intelligence and education level, but it is probably an indication of intelligence and education level. Let's face it, learned people rarely condemn people to die at the hand of god/ conspiracy in all capital letters.
